Feeding in
If space permits, we encourage new starters to attend with a parent or carer one session a week in the weeks before they turn 3.
This allows your child to become familiar with the classroom and the daily routines within it.
Your child may then be left without a parent when they turn 3 if the pre-school staff are satisfied they are settled and happy to be left.

Policies
We have a comprehensive set of policies and procedures that govern how the pre-school operates from Management of Admissions to Child Protection.
We ask that all parents take the time to read this document and we are very happy to answer any queries or discuss anything in depth.

Snacks
Parents are asked to provide a snack each session.
We promote a policy of healthy eating along the national guidelines and ask that items such as crisps, chocolate and sweets are not included in the children’s snack. Please also make sure it is in a container they can open or Clingfilm and clearly marked with their name on it.
Milk and water is available to the children throughout the session and at snack and lunch time.

Lunch Club
Lunch clubs are an optional extra for children attending the pre-school.
They operate twice a week from 12 noon when the normal session ends until 1.25 pm. This gives the children the opportunity to have an extended session and a social meal together and gives parents a little longer between dropping off and collecting – perhaps allowing some parents the opportunity to work or do the weekly shop!
As with snack we promote healthy eating and ask parents to provide lunch in a clearly named container.
The lunch club is not covered by the EYEF grant which is why we make a separate charge for this.

What to bring to a session
As the children go outside every day wellies, coats, hats, sunscreen and spare shoes are required at different times of the year according to the great British weather.
We like the children to have both outside and inside shoes.

Parent meetings & reports
The Pre-School staff are always willing to have a chat with parents about the progress of their children. If there is not enough time available at the start or end of a session arrangements can be made to speak either in person or on the phone.
We offer a formal parent meeting half way through the year during the Spring Term and a written report is produced for each child at the end of the Summer Term.

First aid
A minimum of one qualified First Aider will always be on the premises. They will make a decision as to what treatment is appropriate for your child.
Simple knocks, bumps and scratches will usually mean your child is comforted, and First Aid treatment will be given if deemed appropriate. We record all Accidents and Incidents and we ask Parents to sign the record if an incident occurs.
In the event of a serious injury requiring Emergency First Aid treatment we will make every effort to contact parents.

Health
In accordance with National Guidelines and to prevent the spread of infection we ask that if any children have had an infectious illness, sickness or diarrhoea that they remain at home for at least 48 hours after the symptoms have passed.

Helper Rota
We have a Helper Rota, which operates each term.
Since we operate out of the community parish hall we have to ensure the hall is tidy at the end of each session. We therefore ask parents to help tidy up about 3 times a term for 15 minutes towards the end of a session.
